I want to begin by explaining my purpose here. You see I worked in retail for many, many years, and I have certainly learned a thing or two about life, people, love, and of course retail.
My blog address (Wear Vans to a Gucci Party.blogspot ) pays homage to the years I had been told what to wear, who to be and what people expect of me in the crazy retail world.
It took a long time for me to realize that no matter where I worked, what social circle of retail people I was in, and weather or not I was invited to the "it" party of the fashion scene, I was always going to be a mere accesory to a world that was already designing somthing new. Life in retail was as good as the season lasted. One day your a hot piece to have and the next day you are marked down and being sent to the wharehouse sale.
There were definite times where I let the glitz of a Louis Vuitton party blind me to my true reality, and yes there were times when I spent all my paycheck on some Prada boots just to be accepted into the circle. But- I always knew that the lables and the parties were only temporary. My true happiness was being who I was when I got home, never conforming, never pretending.
There is that old saying "Put yourself in my shoes" that resonates daily with me, and I want everyone reading my blog to do just that. Laugh, cry, hate and love all at the same time.
In the end, I hope that you will see that life is not about wearing Gucci to a fabulous party, but its about wearing the kind of shoes that you feel comfortable in...even if its a pair of Vans!
Enjoy and remember...
"Wear Vans no matter what they say!"
